Does Hillary have a chance in '08?

I wonder. She is manipulative and about as secretive as GW and presents herself sort of shrilly. She has a real "I know best for you, you idiot" attitude, I think. She also has a high "hate her" number (which might change, granted). Her demeanor is off putting to me.

All that said, if the republicans run another sactimonious social conservative I suspect she would look good even to me.

McCain is working hard to get himself shortlisted for the republicans.

Any rumblings from the prospective third parties????

Look at it this way...

Can you think of a single 2004 red state that would choose Hillary rather than Kerry?

I can't.

Can you think of a blue state that would be less inclined to go for Hillary than Kerry?

I can: Wisconsin.

Therefore, on math alone, I would say that no, she doesn't have a chance.

I would vote for her in a heartbeat.

I would vote for her in a heartbeat.

I nominate this for the most unnecessary post of 2006. :D

But seriously... Mark, do you think she could win against, say, a McCain-level candidate?

Well, the cool thing is that Jew/Arab threads, gun threads, ClausbashingUSA threads might have to make room for a spate of hillary threads.

I have some doubt that she can get nominated.

Yes. And there are those that would vote for any republican, no matter who. You folks, sadly, don't count. I, and people like me are the folks that are going to decide the election in '08.

Oh, I don't. The Dems are in a crisis of leadership right now. She represents the good old days... the same mistake the GOP made with Dole in '96.

She'll take the nomination if she runs.

Is a single term Senator who has never held another elected office in her life qualified to be Prez?

I do not thing she would win and I seriously doubt she would even get nominated. However, she is smart, independent, and capable, and a good politician (pardon the oxymoron).

The definition of insanity is "doing the same thing and expecting different results." Hillary would be something different.

The Republicans would have to nominate a flaming gay atheistic abortionist pacifist for Hillary to have a chance in '08.

...or Richard Simmons. That'd do the trick, too.

Yeah, maybe. That would be sad. I would really like to see an election where the extremes are disenfranchised. Don't forget Dukakis and Goldwater. It ever occur to you that the elections are fixed?

But nominating a sure loser would be something the same. ;) Just ask Bob Dole.

Excuuuuuuuuuuse, me, Luke, but you're overlooking her prime qualification: she's a woman.

So you can just take your elitist GOP snobbery back to the cross burning, thankyouverymuch. :D

[flounder mode] That would be cool [/flounder mode]

I’ve never been able to have anyone explain why so many people hate Hillary Clinton so much. It’s not like Bush hating or Bill Clinton hating, where the hater in question can rattle off a laundry list of offenses that their target has committed. It just seems to be a blind, unreasoning hatred.

It would be a futile gesture on the part of the Democrats, I agee. On the other hand, given the current political climate in this country, anyone they nominate will probably be a futile gesture at best. Might as well go out in style.

Besides, seeing the slavering venom spewing from Republican faces everywhere would sort of be worth it...
