I stumbled across this MSN article today:

"Are the Religious Prone to Obesity?"

"New research finds that people who frequently attend religious services are significantly more likely to become obese by the time they reach middle age."

A buncha people sitting in one place for hours when they could be out protesting against gay veterans or barbecuing copies of the Koran...

;)

This seems hard to swallow. But it could be the tradition of the Sunday dinner after church,....

One thing that could make the religious prone to obesity is sexual repression. If the only aspect of physical pleasure that isn't constricted and / or shamed is oral gratification, then the shutting off of sexual outlets might leave to over indulgence in food.

That's just a hypothesis. I'd be interested in haring responses, particularly form people who have been through heavy duty religion.

The only exercise most church people get is when they jump to conclusions, run down their friends, side-step responsibility, and push their luck with God!

(I hope that Ann O'Nymous doesn't sue me for plagiarising her quote.)

Or, it could be that being fat makes you go to church.

Damn this correlation!

or that God makes believers fat because she's got a twisted sense of humour...
