Was listening to my iPod just now, noticed that there was a lot of distortion in the right earpiece. Makes it hard to listen. Do such tiny speakers blow out?

Funny,

My left earpiece just stopped working 3 hours ago, was going to buy a better set tomorrow.

I have heard distortion in them before, when I was playing Metal with the Bass boost on on the EQ. Don't know if it means they are blowing are just bad at the bass.

mine blew out a few months ago, after about a year but I do listen at loud volumes.

I wasnt paying 30 bucks to replace them so now I'm the guy with the 6 dollar black sony headphones connected to his iPod. I'm so uncool:(

Let me just derail the thread a bit to say that I hate all earbuds. Either I have non-standard ears, or everyone else has a higher threshold for pain, because those things hurt after an hour or so. Stupid things.

When I got my first set of bud earphones about fifteen years ago they came with a note that you should avoid banging them around, because the cones were quite easily damaged. I presume it's a combination of a hard shell and a conker-like acceleration at the end of the cord.

I didn't see any such warning on my iPod 'phones, but perhaps they're similarly susceptible.
