...from asking for money.
New Life Church’s former pastor Ted Haggard, who has made at least $338,000 since the beginning of 2006 and owns a house in Colorado Springs valued at more than $700,000, is asking for donations to keep his family afloat.

He told the media that he will be living with and ministering to the downtrodden in Phoenix while he goes to college, and that his family needs financial help while he studies.

Yes, once you have sucked the teat of religious begging, it is hard to let go. Apparently, preaching must preach, because they have no other skills for getting a real job.

I figure selling cars or real estate would be a natural. Then again, if he can find enough people to give, he reconfirms the PT Barnum maxim.

What's he tell his new patrons about him and that guy's johnson: that he didn't inhale?

as a christian myself

I just want to say

PLEASE GO AWAY HAGGARD.

You are not helping christians, you are making us all look bad.

I just moved to Vermont to go to school. I wish people I didn't even know would subsidize my efforts!

I followed some of the links, especially to this one: coloradoconfidential.com It may be that good ol' Ted is running yet another scam.

It wouldn't surprise me. Once addicted to that easy christian money, it must be as hard to get away from as from a good, reliable prostitute. Oh, wait.....

Well of course he is running a scam. Anytime you ask for money with no guarantee of anything in return, it is a scam.

My sister has been successfully pulling this scam on me for the last twenty years.

Haggard received a salary of $115,000 for the 10 months he worked in 2006 and an
$85,000 anniversary bonus before the scandal broke, The Gazette reported.
Haggard's severance package included a year's salary of $138,000, and he
collects royalties on his book titles, the newspaper reported.

excuse me but a $85,000 anniversary bonus?

secondly He should be embarrassed.

Not just for this but so many other things he has done to make reap christians
look bad

The local church he was a pastor in should be embarrassed.

NOT just because of the sin he fell into, but regardless, a rich man needs not a
bonus.

If only people claiming to be Christian would read the Word.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:

on a side note

I BTW hope Keith Olbermann puts Haggard

on the worst person in the world list of his

the next time Keith does that list on his tv show

cause Haggard deserves to be on there for this

He is. Just not embarrassed enough to keep from asking for money. I mean, what other talents does he have?

Not just for this but so many other things he has done to make reap christians
look bad.
I assume you meant "real" Christians. And I have to tell you billiefan, Haggard is a "real Christian". Real Christians can be hypocrites. Real Christians can screw up. Real Christians be greedy bastards. Real Christians can "sin". As I understand it, real Christians like you are supposed to forgive them, right?

The local church he was a pastor in should be embarrassed.
I'm quite sure they are. But they wouldn't be the first church to be embarrassed by putting their faith in a minister who turned out to be not a real nice person. Far from it. If they practiced critical thinking, it might not be quite so common. They are sheep waiting to be shorn. The first guy who comes along who has charisma and good line of BS will take them for all they're worth. How many examples do you need?

NOT just because of the sin he fell into, but regardless, a rich man needs not a

Yes, but he's far from unique. There are many many rich evangelists in this country. They live lifestyles as opulent as any CEO. All for the glory of God, of course.

If only people claiming to be Christian would read the Word.

1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God:
Or maybe Mark 10:21

"Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. "

Apparently Haggard and a number of other ministers have forgotten the "sell whatsoever thou hast" part. In fact, I don't see many Christians that do this.

on a side note, I BTW hope Keith Olbermann puts Haggard on the worst person in the world list of his the next time Keith does that list on his tv show cause Haggard deserves to be on there for this
Not very likely. Haggard is old news. I discovered this little tidbit buried in the back pages of my local newspaper. Olbermann usually goes for big headline stuff. This is nearly off the radar, as are most of the other religious scams that are going on in the world. Fleecing sheep is not news because the sheep aren't complaining. Only if you get a guy involved with prostitutes or gays does it make the news.

Yes, once you have sucked the teat of religious begging, it is hard to let go.

I don't think it's teats that Ted Haggard wants to suck on.*

*Not that there's anything wrong with homosexuality, it's just I object to bastards who quote Leviticus 19:22 and 20:13 while demanding "Defense Of Marriage" amendments with such zeal, but enjoy a little manlovin' on the side.

Sad thing is that it's almost a sure bet there will be some that send him money.

I really wish he'd move from Arizona back to Colorado.

We have enough embarrassments of our own without importing them.
