Penultimate Amazing
This month's Discover (not up on thier site yet, apparently) has an interesting article on a new proposal for a sort of "reciprocating" universe, involving individual universes (membranes, they call em') bumping into each other and causing Big-Bangs on a trillion-year-or-so cycle.
Interesting stuff, based on current string theory thinking. Nothing really observable or testable at this point, but it has a certain elegance, and explains a few of the problems with the Standard Model. (inflation, "dark energy", and so forth.)
Pretty good read.
