Disc Cleaning

I just did a 'disk clean' to delete temporary files. A friend was telling me that Temp files should be deleted as they take up space. However, the procedure doesn't seem to have had any effect I have still got hundreds if not thousands of these files a lot dating back to 1997. Should everything be deleted or are some temporary files needed. For instance there is a 'temp cold' and a temp hot' and when I search these are used as shortcuts......I'm baffled.
If the disc clean doesn't clear the files is it ok to delete each one and then delte them from the re cycle bin?

Max..

Go Google...

Put in "StrayCat" pc cleaner...Download it...

Its shareware...and will only work for 30 days...

You would probably only need to run it once...then uninstall it...

That will automatically chuck out all the garbage you've got..

DB

What I would do is create a new folder "C:\\zzzz", and move everything older than 2 days from the temp folder to C:\\zzzz. Then after a week, if these files weren't needed, I would delete the entire zzzz folder.

Nice call DB....that worked like a dream. almost 1.5G of dire rubbish removed and no side effects. I'm quite astonished.

Thanks for the tip.

I'll have to check that out. Computers just accumulate junk. Often in the end the only way out is to reformat and re-install. At least with Windows XP you can now get it to back up all your application files and restore them automatically. You still accumulate junk, but it still gets rid of most of it.
