Today in St. Louis, two missing boys, Ben Ownby and Shawn Hornbeck, were found in a Kirkwood, MO apartment. Ben Ownby has been missing since Monday. Shawn Hornbeck has been missing since 2002. This story has been on CNN and other national news outlets.
According to the Hornbeck's website devoted to finding Shawn (see shawnhornbeck.com's FAQs):
Q: Have you contacted any psychics?
A: Yes! At this point in our search we are listening to just about anyone who feels that they know where Shawn is! We have talked to many 'gifted' people who feel that they know where Shawn. We have talked to people from all around the US and even Canada!!!
They contacted Sylvia Browne as well, but she was too busy to collect her $700 for a personal reading. According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, the Hornbecks spent over $40,000 on psychics in their search for their son.
I am sickened at the thought of what may have happened to those boys. Details haven't come out yet. I'm thrilled that they have been rescued. But I am also sickened by the thought of psychics preying upon the Hornbecks.
Did psychics help find Shawn Hornbeck? Of course not. The Kirkwood Police just happened to be serving a warrant when everything fell into place. Any chance the psychics will return the Hornbeck's money? Of course not.
