Is there anything else they would like to have before we go to sleep tonight?

That is a disturbing Islamic precept. And the use of the state to do it is openly urged by many prominent American Muslim leaders, such as Ibrahim Hooper and Omar Ahmad of CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations)--both of whom have stated that they want the Koran and Islamic law to replace the U.S. Constitution.
Here are more of the details of France's Muslim food police and their statist attack on Pork soup, as reported by AP:

What's difference between banning pork and banning horse meat?

And apparently, they aren't actually banning pork, just its public distribution without a permit.

I should point out here that pundits and bloggers, Left or Right, aren't exactly known for their fine grasp of facts when they're trying to tell people The Truth(tm).

For example, note that her claim that CAIR leaders want to replace the Constitution with the Quran isn't exactly substantiated.

What's the problem? We aren't using the Constitution, anyway.

Why pork? I don't know anything about religions but why this particular animal? Does anybody know?

They're filthy... and cows were already taken. I'm waiting for a religion that bans liver and Carrot Top movies.

If you search this on Google you will get 1000s of hits and much discussion. This demand from CAIR and other muslim groups, here and overseas (it's happening in Canada too) may stem from the desire of muslims in non-Muslim countries to subject themselves to sharia or god's law as opposed to man's or local law. They are making a religious issue out of it.

In the U.S. separation of church and state blocks such action since the state has laws to which humans are subject and god doesn't. How other countries without church/state separation will fare under these demands, especially if they are already theocracies, is something to ponder.

Pork or any part of the pig is not kosher (for jews) or halal (for mouslims)which means they would be an excellent weapon to use against hezbollahsave for the fact that Israeli's can't touch the stuff even if they wanted to shoot it at the arabs.

I think both religions, muslims and jews, follow the prohibition of eating pork which is in the koran and the old testament. I guess it was originally a dietary law because pigs were considered filthy animals or, well, just pigs.

"No soup for you!"

More on the "pork soup ban": here, which is a reaction to this issue. This is also an interesting article.

Debbie Schlussel apparently forgot to mention that the issue is about rightwing extremists deliberately using pork to exclude Muslim and Jewish homeless people. A whole new meaning to the word "soup Nazi".

Heh..."For sale, one Constitution, rarely used."

My all time favorite has to be the image of the text of the Bill Of Rights with a massive "VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW" in large, red, bureaucratic letters stamped over the top.

In "bible times" pigs were especially prone to particular deadly diseases and in hot climates pig meat very quickly attracts plenty of nasty bacteria.

Hence it was banned - because there was a good chance eating it would kill you.

In a primitive society that doesn't have a well established legal system the most effective way of getting people to do something is "God said so". Hence the religious prohibition on pork.

Consider chicken. There are certain activities involving chicken meat - such as reheating - that are big no no's for health reasons. These days we use science as the education to prevent people from eating re-cooked chicken, and health laws prevent places like restaurants doing it.

In less enlightened times we would have simply said "God said don't eat re-heated chicken".

How would you use pigs as a weapon against Hezbollah?

Some people are allergic to pigmeat.

Now if some rabbi saw people dying after eating pork, then he could reason that pig is unclean.

Every US military agent must be known to coat their bullets and missiles with pig blood & guts.

Every terrorist killed in the entire world must be known to await burial in pigs**t.

Every pilot, flight attendant, passenger should carry pepper-like pork spray to coat a would-be suicide skyjacker. Without paradise, why die?

At every airline gate, each passenger must be required to eat a meal of BACON before being allowed to board any airplane.
You refuse - you don't board! Simpler and more cost-effective than expensive, less-than-foolproof security devices - and sure to smoke out the potential terrorist every time.

Use their own beloved Koran, the source of their strength, against them, and this is OVER!
