Death toll in India > 200

Dreadful stuff. And they appear to have no idea who's behind it - or at least, if they have they're not saying.

I've seen some acusations floating around. Problem is there are quite a few groups in india who might try something like this although the sikhs appear to have calmed down.

yeah, a terrible incident. It was so awful it was first mentioned on page six of the NY Post...3 pages after an article on Anna Kournikova's alleged anorexia.

At least New York Newsday found it to be front page news.

The wierdest reaction from family (I'm from India originally) - why would we go on alert? Do you know how many people are in Bombay? The bombs must have been very small to only cause that few deaths during rush hour.

I should really be worried - I may have to go to Mumbai regularly, from later this year onwards... :(

In a very chilling kind of way, a fully packed train results in less deaths - as we saw at London.

Human bodies are excellent at absorbing explosive blasts. Consider a common hand grenade... there are many accounts of soldiers throwing themselves onto grenades, sacrificing their life to save others located directly by the grenade. This is significant absorbtion considering the lethal blast radius of two common Russian grenades; the RGO (6 - 20m) and RGN (4 - 10m).

Even a moderate sized explosive charge may only penetrate through a few people in a tightly packed train, whereas in a less-packed train shrapnel will engulf the entire carriage.

Yeah, I've seen some accusations too, but nothing from any official sources yet. I've also heard some Islamic militant groups hastily disowning the bombs, which is an unusual turn of events.

Not really. India has rather a lot of groups who don't have much to do with this kind of stuff. Not like the UK where there is rather a shortage of the usal suspects.
