Death from measles in UK

I've been waiting for it to happen. Yup, the measles outbreaks have claimed their first victim - a young man from Yorkshire who was dependent on herd imunity for his own protection.

In Blackpool, there has been an outbreak which has seen over 40 cases of measles in the last month, with 5 hospitalisations. The report in the local paper (which does not have all the cases to date) reports on the problem. One child nearly died from measles pneumonitis.
Claire Hartley feared her five-year-old daughter Leah would die after the disease escalated into pneumonia.

Mrs Hartley said coverage in the national press about alleged links between the vaccination and autism contributed to her decision not to take her children for the jab.

But she said: "I feel so guilty now that I never took Jack and Leah for the MMR jab.

Wakefield, how do you sleep at night, knowing you have contributed to disease and death?
I thought you were a "healer", someone the public places their trust in to help when they are unwell and to protect them from harm. Shame on you.
And shame on the media, especially the Daily Wail, Melanie Phillips and co.

Seconded. This is a foreseeable consequence of the way this was presented and reported. Those who contributed to this should now try to make amends for their part in it by reporting the value of vaccines honestly. This would include making a lot of noise about what these illnesses are really like because I think many people have forgotten or have never known the horror of such illnesses before vaccination.

What do you expect from newspapers? Today, the Express on Sunday has this:

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/49330/Suicides-linked-to-phone-masts-

THE spate of deaths among young people in Britain’s suicide capital could be linked to radio waves from dozens of mobile phone transmitter masts near the victims’ homes.

Dr Roger Coghill, who sits on a Government advisory committee on mobile radiation, has discovered that all 22 youngsters who have killed themselves in Bridgend, South Wales, over the past 18 months lived far closer than average to a mast.

He has examined worldwide studies linking proximity of masts to depression. Dr Coghill’s work is likely to trigger alarm and lead to closer scrutiny of the safety of masts, which are frequently sited on public buildings such as schools and hospitals.

It is also likely to fuel more campaigns against placing masts close to public places on health grounds.

Dr Coghill said last night there was strong circumstantial evidence that the masts may have triggered depression in those from Bridgend who took their lives.

Thanks for the article. Yup, it was inevitable that this would happen sooner or later. Lets not forget that its not just the rare death that is the only problem, but permanent scarring, brain damage, and blindness are also occasional complications of this disease.

Isn't the soi-disant "doctor" coghill involved in a business selling magic bracelets that are supposed to protect the wearer against evil radiation?
Yes - he posted here a while back. Got soundly thrashed but many felt (me included) that he was just using this forum to test his arguments. He is a businessman, not a scientist.
