Dear Leader Makes More Mischief Before US/China Summit

Pretty predictable move by North Korea, keep the pot stirring.

The open question, though, is how hard they want to stir it. Will Kim do another nuclear test? That's about as provocative as he can be without actually attacking anyone.

I dunno, I think we should be goading North Korea into doing this every week. It has to be brutal on their already fragile economy to waste resources this way, this regime could collapse just from being under too much pressure to keep up the bluster.

And the thing it, being before a China/US summit, it is provocative to China as well as the usual suspects. Puzzling move, since China is the one country NK cannot afford to alienate.

and from all indications, China is eager to align with Trump on reining in Pyongyang. Because a nightmare for many American analysts has always been a DPRK capable of hitting the West coast.

Plus it gives team Dump even more opportunities to explain how foreign troublemakers wouldn't dare pull the shenanigans they pulled on weak-ass Obama, on their watch.

China doesn't want THAD in South Korea, among other issues, so it would be smarter to talk about stepping that up rather than threatening to attack North Korea. China would probably, on some level, like the US attacking (depending on who is backing who on the committee this week) as a way to distract it's population with external enemies (which is part of the reason for the South China sea nastiness). But it would be bad for the US and South Korea.

There are so many spanners in the works here. China is South Korea's largest trading partner, and they like to use the stick a lot more than the carrot against them. I'm kind of baffled anyone is trying to do business with China anymore. Sure the market is huge, but the pitfalls are massive.

Won't happen. Until the US removes its troops from South Korea, North Korea will do as it pleases forever.
Because China is so afraid of being invaded by the United States through North Korea.

Oh wait, wasn't China going to kick our asses with their new fighter and aircraft carrier?

China kicked the US's tail out of North Korea in 1950-51. They can do it again...even better, next time.

For Kim, China isn't simply an ally. Kim is probably always worried about the possibility of a coup against him, and in this respect, China poses a bigger threat to him than South Korea. He's more likely to end up dead because of plots hatched in Beijing than Seoul. He can't push China nearly as much as he can push South Korea because he does need them, but it's not all hugs and kisses.

You really act like a cheerleader for China, but have you given any thought to how it worked out for the North Koreans?

I think you just don't want to see the truth. China is no Iraq or Iran or Libya - the US will not treat china with contempt. For example, the US watched 60,000 of its soldiers die in Vietnam, yet still wouldn't invade North Vietnam even though that choice insured the Vietnam War was lost: the US was that wary of China's power.

Now, the Warhawks like to remind everyone that the US has the biggest, baddest military on the planet - and it does. But even though the US has the most powerful military in the world, it can not intimidate every one - and China is one that is not going to back down.

The sooner you accept this reality, the more clearly you will think.

And about a minute after the US pulls it troops out, North Korea will chance it and invade.

Invade with what? Their totally out-of-date military they can't even adequately feed?

If after 70 years of US help South Korea can't handle North Korea, then South Korea is a failed state.

Um, North Vietnam was backed by the Soviets, not so much by the Chinese.

However, the Chinese are not to be taken lightly. They are not a direct threat to the US, they are not going to attack the US mainland but they will defend what they consider their turf and that includes their brain-damaged little cousin, North Korea.
