Blaine plans high-wire stunt
NEW YORK (AP) -- For his next stunt, David Blaine says he'll perform an "easy and fun" high-wire act in Manhattan on Halloween.

"Basically, it's something that's been done in the circuses, based on the old high-wire acts," Blaine told The Associated Press on Tuesday. "It's like family entertainment, this one."

For his last stunt, in the fall of 2003, Blaine dangled in a plastic cubicle near the River Thames in London for 44 days with only small amounts of water for nourishment. He emerged 50 pounds lighter.

The New York magician expects this next stunt will be less demanding.

"It's my easiest one," he said, adding that the logistics aren't completed. "I want it to be simplistic and reachable for everybody. I was even going to call this one 'Easy and Fun."'

Blaine, 32, said he recently reached a deal with ABC for four more shows, beginning with the Halloween stunt. His three previous ABC specials will air on TLC beginning Sunday. The programs include "David Blaine's Vertigo," when he stood on a small platform atop a 100-foot-high pillar for 35 hours in midtown Manhattan, and "David Blaine: Frozen in Time," when he suspended himself inside a 6-ton block of ice for 62 hours in New York's Times Square.

While some have said his tricks no longer constitute magic in the traditional sense, Blaine said that's too narrow a view.

"I think magic is whatever the individual defines it to be. I say it's all magic."

I don't think there is anything that David Blaine can not do.

Well, Houdini totally ripped off Robert-Houdin. Even the name!

And everybody knows Robert-Houdin totally ripped off REO Speedwagon, from 130 years in the past, and also he somehow converted their songs into magic tricks, but still--totally ripped them off.

I have mixed feelings about Blaine.

I like that he gets people interested in magic, but then many of his tricks are quite simple, although very well presented.

But that also means I can do some of the same tricks he does...

Houdini took some of rober Houdin's name as he initially admired him.Since when did RH ever do escapology or debunk mediums?
Not sure about REO Speedwagon,Ill check and get back to you:p

Oh and I hate David Blaine.

That picture always reminds me of my Six Million Dollar Man action figure with the glass eye that made things look further away.

Not to mention the roll-up flesh that revealed the bionic arm underneath, and the mechanical grip hand. I loved that thing, as well as the matching Bionic Woman and Bionic Bigfoot counterparts.

I think they should make a Blaine version. The eye would make it look like people are levitating much higher than they really are, and the mechanical hand could do a sloppy pass.

Sort of. But what it really reminds me of is David Blaine!

It's not a homosexual attraction; his allure is purely based on admiration. And it's normal to feel jealous, if your tricks are really bad, then a bit of healthy envy should make you wanna practice. (Just don't COPY the man, 'cause that's almost like stealing lyrics you didn't write yourself, if you were a singer/song-writer, for example...)

Ha ha ha... you can't say that! Good one!

Yeah but the flesh rotted within about 48 hours of removal from the box.

I find David Blaine to be irritating.

Personally, I have a difficult time watching David Blaine. I find his mannerisms, patter, etc., to be very irritating. In my opinion, he really needs to work on that aspect of his act. However, he does seem to be doing better in more recent televised shows. In addition, I don't think he is doing magic itself a service when he misleads the television audience with his editing. His levitation trick is just one example. In my opinion, this undermines the art of magic. If he can use trick photography or film editing to produce or improve an effect, then nothing he does can be trusted.

I used to like a lot of his street magic, nothing much new in terms of what was being done, just a nice relaxed presentation.

These "stunts" he has started doing really leave me cold.

It sounds like you're saying he does the Balducci manoeveur then films himself with wires, and then fixes it in post-production.

At least, that's what a caller to the Sports Junkies (junkiesradio.com) once said.

Or did I read that on this website?

Hey thanks for revealing how that trick was done...I always wondered, and had never heard of the secret until you gave it away.

Oh, cool, perhaps you could explain it to me... I only heard about it on the radio, as I said, and I could never figure out what the Balducci manoeveur was? I was just commenting on a previous post. Perhaps you could get laid? Maybe relieve the tension a little?

Teabag you are a rude annoying little boy, and if you don't post anything in response I'll assume you agree. :)

Here here, he sounds and looks like he's either on dope, or weary of the world. Criss Angel has taken notes from him and seems to have the same patter, but I do appreciate his shock and gross value, as in the quarter under the skin illusion.

Magicians aren't supposed to be trusted, just believed. ;) I'd have to disagree on this point ONLY IF the trick being performed is extraordinary, and can only be performed this way. Such tricks are designed for TV audiences, like making huge objects disappear. Clever editing makes these tricks wholly feasible and impressive. The simple ones, however, which only need alternate angles, are total yawners.

How can Houdini ripped off Robert Houdin? Houdini did invented the escapism, and Robert Houdin had a metal tree that gived real oranges (what I'm saying is that Houdini didn't take R.Houdin style or kind of performance).
And actually, even if he did take the name because he was a fan, H. Houdini write a book talking bad about R. Houdin, I believe the book is avilable at the learned pig proyect, but I'm not really sure 'couse I haven't got there in a million years.
Anyway, as I'm getting tired of this confiusing text (Houdini, Houdin), I'm going to return to the subject: I belive this David Blaine kingdom thing is actually boring, there are lots of great tricks out there, and yet to invent, but he does the most tipical ones that everybody all ready knows. There's not to much to learn from him. I even prefered when it was Copperfield. He was even better at the slights of hand even if he was not famous for that.
Everything is more interesting that a first video that was just fine, and a second that had more and more scams, and that bloody balducci levitation that we never actually get to see him performing (you can't even proof that he knows how).
Now I'm cross.
good bye
