RNC Requests Bush Hug Ad Be Removed, Daschle Defends
Uuugh....I hate election year politics. The Republican National Committee has requested that a controversial new "false and misleading" political ad featuring Democratic Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle hugging President George W. Bush be immediately removed from the airwaves.
[...]
A letter penned by the Republican National Committee on Tuesday called on the Daschle campaign to remove this ad from the air because it is a blatant attempt at showing Bush supports Daschle.
"As you are no doubt aware, President Bush has not indicated any support for your campaign, and in fact has endorsed your opponent, John Thune," the letter from the RNC states. "The implication from your advertisement that President Bush supports you is false and misleading."
But Daschle defended the ad and the hug on Wednesday during a press conference explaining that it showed his willingness to be bipartisan as the Senate majority leader at time when the country needed it the most after September 11, 2001.
"This was a time to show unity," Daschle exclaimed to reporters about the hug with Bush. "There was nothing contrived about that hug."
