CSICon III - Tacoma

I should make it this time. The location*** last year was a letdown, which contributed to me not going.

***Nashville was a great location, I'd like to go there someday. But when I go, I don't want to be stuck in a hotel out by the airport.

Most of the things going on in Nashville are not downtown and haven't been for awhile> Out around 21at Ave/Vanderbilt is more what you may be looking for - otherwise you have to hit Lebanon Road/Briley Parkway/Madison/ Nolensville.... Note that two of those (the first two ) are the general hotel area. In Nashville (generally twice a year) I HQ on either Briley Pkwy or further out on Donelson Pike. But, then, It is my functional hometown.

Cool. Tacoma's 20 miles or so from my house. I'll probably make this happen.

Seriously, Tacoma's Murano??

Unless things have changed greatly in the last few years, that is NOT a neighborhood you want to be walking in after nightfall, which is fairly early in October up here. I mean, it's not Hilltop or one of the other gang territories, but it's a former industrial area without a whole lot to recommend it. There are a couple of museums, one in a former railroad station, along that patch of road, but it's not really in what I'd consider a downtown or hotel district. (Partially because Tacoma doesn't *have* a downtown or hotel district...)

It will probably be nicer than staying right by the airport area, and much cheaper than downtown Seattle; but this seems to be a 'discovered by Internet' kind of venue. It wouldn't take much of a walk-around to realize that this is not a foot-traffic friendly area.

I'll go take a look next week or so and see if things have gentrified since last time I was down there. It may be that one of the attractions is that this is fairly close to the rail transit zone, but since the 'light rail' from SeaTac runs up to downtown Seattle but does NOT run south to Tacoma, that's pretty useless. (You'd have to take the Link train up to downtown, then change trains to a different line a couple of blocks over to take the Sounder commuter train down to Tacoma.) Otherwise it's a not-small distance or cab fare to Tacoma. Hmmmm, I hope this is someone's confused posting.

Somewhat befuddled, MK

ETA -- And it's expensive! What the heck??

My car seats 4 comfortably, 5 in a pinch. More fun places can be found a short drive away. Is there any pricing info I'm missing for this year? The site the FB page links to is still showing '12 data.

The number of parking lots surrounding the place are depressing, but it looks like there are numerous bars and restaurants in walking distance.

Good to know, Scrut, I have not been down there in a couple of years; and with this neck thingy, can't spend much time online to research.

There is an extremely cool Museum of Glass and another museum in the restored old fabulous train station nearby.

Here's the big thing: COME to Con! Let me see your smiling skeptic faces!!!

I will bring lovely chocolates! PLus, I will have a car to get to the aforementioned bars etc.
