Okay, I've been wanting to try this for awhile. I think it'd be really interesting.

If you're an atheist (or the equivalent), try to make a convincing argument FOR the existence of God, as you think a Fundamentalist might, or in any manner that suits your fancy. And if you believe in God, argue what you believe an atheist would say in response.

As an atheist, I'll start.

(cross dressing begins here)

When I come to this site, I can't decide whether to laugh or shake my head in pity. Have you ever noticed how sad atheists are? How afraid they are? Look at Woody Allen.

I'd even say it borders on pathetic. There'd have to be something wrong with you to WANT to be nothing but a pile of meat. To WANT to pretend you're worthless.

But I guess I'm not surprised. Atheists are the most depressed, curmudgeonly, rude and irritating people on earth. I'll bet they were that way BEFORE they denied God. It's just a logical extension.

On the other hand, Christians, or anyone who knows what they're really worth, are able to fully enjoy life and appreciate each other and how important each person is. That's no coincidence. People who are good, and KNOW they are worth something, usually have the self-esteem to admit that they are a product of a creator that loves them.

You people are the opposite. But I don't hate you. I just feel very, very sorry.

(hey, that WAS fun! I think I did a good job, too. I'd be interested to see a real/fake atheist response to that)

my go at this as an atheist giving a religious argument.

I've always thought that religion must be a great consolation. In times of trouble, you have your God to turn to. In times where you need community you have a group (your church) who are bound to you by more than just common interests or shared sense of humour, or even just blood. Ties of faith can be incredibly strong, and when someone is your spiritual brother you are more likely to reach out to them in times of need. This is a connection beyond mere friendship or like and dislike.

I don't think I did a very good job.

Great idea for a thread! Might be a good challenge for everyone.

Hm. Since I'm an agnostic, am I supposed to be a gnostic? It sounds more like wordplay than actually reversing my opinions.

Religious giving argument as atheist:

If you watch the show "Mythbusters", they seperate myths into 3 categories: Confirmed, Plausible, or Busted. I have seen no evidence of God, so I can't say "Confirmed". I do not believe that there could be any evidence of God (since we haven't found any), so I can't say "Plausible". That leaves us with "Busted". Although I don't understand what happened before the Big Bang, I do not theorize about it. If I don't theorize, I don't believe in a creator.
