Crimestoppers mistake disrupts man’s life

The pounding on Anthony Parker’s front door woke him at 6:30 a.m. April 5. He answered the door, half-asleep and groggy, to a friend gripping a copy of that day’s newspaper.

Parker looked at the paper and did a double-take.

An advertisement on the back page of the first section listed eight people wanted in various crimes. Parker’s name and photograph were among them.

“He knew I didn’t do anything,” Parker said. “And he said, ‘Man, I refuse to let you go out to work today and not know what’s going on.’”

The Crimestoppers ad in The Fayetteville Observer said Parker was wanted on drug, theft and assault charges. It offered a cash reward for an arrest.

Parker said he knew he couldn’t be wanted for crimes he didn’t commit. He called police, then went to the police station.

“They said, ‘We knew you was coming. It was a mistake,’” Parker said Thursday.

Crimstoppers should just print an ad with an apology and problem is solved.

Until somebody who didn't get the message:

1) resorts to violence to "capture" him
2) reports him in an airport or other public place
3) decides it's fun to not know that it was a mistake
...

How did they make this mistake, anyhow.

“They said, ‘We knew you was coming. It was a mistake,’” Parker said Thursday.

UPDATE: Now wanted for butchering the English language (unless that's the exact quote from the police)
