FTC, FDA to Crack Down on Bogus SARS Treatments

WASHINGTON (Reuters Health) - The U.S. Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Friday they would take joint action to crack down on Internet marketers of bogus SARS treatments.

The agencies said warnings have been issued so far to 40 Web sites that have been marketing therapies ranging from dietary supplements to medical devices to ward off the potentially life-threatening disease.

There is no approved treatment or diagnostic test for severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS.

Canadian authorities and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are helping the investigation, the agencies said.
Do a keyword search on eBay for 'SARS' and you'll get hundreds of hits for everything from masks/respirators to Canadian Elk Velvet.

Scary stuff like this.

Well, since the disease is new in appearance, the opinion on the efficacy of homoeopathy for SARS has to be based on the basis of the capacity of the homoeopathic medicines to handle similar situations. Broadly, it has to be noted if homoeopathic can help condition such as viral infection such as influenza or viral pneumonitis.

Fortunately, it has been collective experience of the homoeopathic profession over last 200 years that homoeopathy has effective treatment for following virus ailments:

• Influenza
• Vial pneumonitis
• Viral warts
• Viral infection such as Hepatitis A and B

In the light of the established role of homoeopathy for viral infection, there is little or no doubt that homoeopathy can help SARS.
IOW, "Since we know that homeopathy can cure the flu, pneumonia, warts, and hepatitis, why shouldn't it cure SARS, too?"

Very scary.

Go Feds. Sic 'em.
