Could you pass a US citizenship test?

In order to become a US citizen, immigrants must pass the Naturalization Test. American citizenship bestows the right to vote, improves the likelihood of family members living in other countries to come and live in the US, gives eligibility for federal jobs, and can be a way to demonstrate loyalty to the US. Applicants must get 6 answers out of 10 in an oral exam to pass the test. According to US Citizenship and Immigration services, 92 percent of applicants pass this test.

You must get 58 or more of these test questions correct in order to pass.

My result: "You answered 81 of 96 questions correctly for a total score of 84%."

I'm packing my bags and heading off to Florida for some of those great housing bargains. :D

This is a terrible test design unless they're trying to maximize their banner ad counters. Have to click through 192 pages to finish the test, lol. Painfully slow on my thin client at work.

I'm not going to try to become an American until they amend their constitution to allow me to become President. Many observers agree there would be few better qualified individuals than myself to have their fingers on the button.

After Canada apologized for Bryan Adams we were going to amend the Constitution to allow Canadian immigrants who became citizens to be President, but then you threw Celine Dion and Justin Bieber at us.

Bad form stlicho.

Agreed. I got the first one right, so I award myself a score of 100%, and the designers a zero.

Not too bad, although a few wrong answers were ridiculous errors.

We forgot to apologise for Shania Twain too. :mglook

Although some of those questions are best answered by figuring out what they want the answer to be. For example, the question about whom Senators represent, or why colonists came to North America.

Not for the cynical.

Same for me.

Thirded. Both on the constitution. I said 23, instead of 27 amendments and written in 1789 instead of 1787.

Gord, I am curious if you remember which ones you missed. I have heard it said that most Americans can't pass the test, but if these questions are truly representative than I despair even further for my country. most of them were ridiculously easy for somebody who has lived in the US his/her entire life here and didn't bury his/her head in the sand.

I liked that one of the options for a war we fought in the 1900's was the war of 1812.

Yup. I had similar thoughts about the meaning of 'freedom of religion' including freedom not to worship. Easy for any member here, but might be challenging so some.

I had no idea the citizenship test had quite so many banner ads. They must be making a fortune off these things!

It kind of gives away the answer to the question about our economic system...
