Since many of you seem to work in the sciences, and google isn't being cooperative, I was wondering if anyone has had experience renting a laboratory to do research, and if so, how much did it cost? The specific kind of lab I'm looking for is one for spectroscopy (The student project I'm doing research for is to design the scientific and financial aspects of a blood glucose monitor for diabetics that uses Near-Infrared Light to determind the amount of glucose in the blood.)

Academic research is usually not about money. What happens is that principal investigators talk to each other and find out if they can borrow some lab space/equipment from their colleagues.

I know lots of labs that would be happy to let you borrow their equipment, as long as it doesnt directly interfere with their activities. That means maybe you have to do your work in the late afternoons or during nights.

I would suggest you find a PI who might be interested in the work you are doing. They might be willing to collaborate with you, or point you in the direction of other PIs who are interested in that work. Then you wouldnt have to pay them. Instead of pay, they usually want some credit for developing the work (i.e. coauthorship on any papers that are published)

Im planning a business around the equipment I need for the lab, in order to have a privately funded laboratory. For me, its the way to go.

I dont know if it would work for you.

Are you saying you just need to rent a spectroscope, or do you need an entire lab-full of equipment?
