Copernic is a search engine for your PC. A friend of mine has a graphics company and he uses it because of the vast amounts of data he has on his systems which is impossible for any one person to keep track of.

All I have to say is WOW! I have never seen anything so amazing, you open the interface, type in partial word or a couple numbers - that you can remember - and POW it searches every stinking file on you PC and list results in a window, (picture searching with Google). It checks emails, pdf's, files, faves, vids, doc's, everything. The best part is it shows you a preview of the found items without opening programs to view them, ie: Word, Outlook, etc.

One can find it here:

Enjoy!:)

Interesting. Don't need it, though. I have almost 300GB of crap, and I know where it all is.

Most peoples' memories aren't so good so the cool part is if you had a file or address or piece of text or document you have forgotten/misplaced/hidden but you can remember just a piece of it, ( eg: '13' instead of '1313 Mockingbird Lane Boston MA 02134' ) You can just type in '13' and Copernic will search your entire PC and return all results that include 13. I found that amazing and a huge time saver... :D

It's not about memory, it's about being organized. My HD is the only thing I keep organized :)

Yeah, me too. I have to watch about 500 gigs of movies, listen to about 100 gigs of music, read about 5 gigs of e-books and play about 200 gigs of games. I guess I'll be busy for a life or two.

I knew Copernic as a multi-engine search tool, but it seems that the success of Google has reduced the need for multi-engine searches. I used to do complicated searches in my HD with Search & Replace which is an amazing tool.

How does it work exactly ?

How is the indexing done ? What is the principle behind indexing huge amount of text?

What happens to the index when a file is deleted or when a file is edited ?

Can someone suggest an article on the subject ?

Thanks

nimzo
