Cool Science Videos

Howdy --

A friend of mine forwarded me this video of strange behaviour of viscous fluid, in this case shampoo, highlighting something called "the Kaye Effect."

I also found this other really cool video of experiments done with water spheres in space. Maybe I'm a geek, but I think these are really neat videos. I wonder how much planning went into it (someone actually thought to bring an effervescent tablet? Or do crews on the space shuttle usually bring those?)...

Here's an an art piece made with something called "ferrofluid" (I assume that this is some kind of magnetized fluid -- like oil with iron particles suspended in it?), which is neat, and this home demonstration, completely with creepy music.

Enjoy, and please post any other geeky science vids you really like. : )

The Kaye effect video is really cool. I might go and try that with the shampoo.

ETA the second video you link to: where you say 'water spheres in space', you meant 'Alanis Morrissette's derriere'?

;)

OOOOPS! Serves me right to have more than one window open on this forum (someone had posted about that video in another thread). I can't get to the link from work (youtube is blocked here), but as soon as I get home tonight I will fix. Thanks for pointing that out!

Here's the video about the water sphere in space. Cool stuff! Sorry about the mispost earlier. ; )

Edited to add: nifty video about the bees, CACTUSJACKmankin -- although I found it interesting (and disturbing) that some of the scrolling "related videos" were videos propertedly demonstrating how such behaviour disproves evolution...

Yeah, but even somebody who doesn't know much about evolution(like me) can see that such a relationship is well within the bounds of evolution. I think it just sucks that bees do vector calculus better then I do, I think that disproves creationism. God should have made me better at math.

Holy cow that water video is cool.
