I read this afternoon, that NOT only do we now have enough votes in the House to pass health-care reform, but we can even do it without the sneaky way of not voting for the Senate plan, while voting for changes to it.

We will follow the set rules of reconciliation, by passing the Senate plan, then passing amendments to it, and then the Senate will approve those same amendments. All of the BS of the Senate plan will be removed.

So we will pass health-care reform, with our heads held high. Good job Dems, we accomplished something which seemed impossible for 60 years.

Once again, I am very proud to be a registered Democrat, and SOO very proud to be an American.

I doubt the Senate will approve all of the same amendments, which means the House will have to vote one more time. I'm sure the House and the Senate will not agree completely as to what counts as "strictly budgetary." No more votes on the Senate Bill, though, so it shouldn't be a major obstacle.

We did so much. We ended the quagmire of medicare, medicaid, schip, va health, etc, etc, etc and created one lean government health system. We ended the legal abuse that results in whole counties being purged of medical professionals. We fixed the supply and demand problem with medical professionals and services. We fixed the long term costing problems which result in us paying so much more than single payer systems.

And starting immediately, every US citizen will have access to health care.

Oh wait, we didn't get any of that! Nevermind. What is it this bill does again?

Most of the electorate tends to have a short memory. If people are doing alright in October, many will vote to keep the incumbents in office, no matter how many times the people running to replace the incumbents try to remind them of what happened 'way back' in March.

While I share a lot of your attitudes toward this bill, it does a lot of good things, and if it doesn't get passed now, it's extremely unlikely anything will get passed for the foreseeable future. Here's what it does: insurance reforms including an end to rescission and post-claim underwriting (by getting rid of pre-existing condition exclusions), end of unreasonable annual and life-time benefits caps; the individual mandate that will require many low risk people to pay into the system; other revenue generating measures (including taxes on the wealthier people); state-run, subsidized insurance exchanges that will allow many of the currently uninsured to get insurance. It will get us about 31 million people nearer to universal access to healthcare. Is likely to lower the deficit measurably over the long run.

These are real and tangible benefits that will be the difference between life and death for many people, and the difference between a decent life and a horrible life for many people.

i am curious as to why GOPers think insurance companies should be allowed to drop members when they get sick, not cover pre-existing conditions, and greatly raise rates even when they make enormous profits.

how long did the GOP Congress have to stop insurance companies from banning pre-existing conditions?

how long did the GOP Congress have to stop insurance companies from dropping coverage from folks who get sick?

how long did the GOP Congress have to let Americans buy health-insurance over state lines?

how long did the GOP Congress have to institute lawsuit reform in the health industry?

how long did the GOP Congress have to enact their ideas to reform health-care in the USA?????????

honestly, GOPers, you guys had 12 damn years, and did you accomplish ANY of this??? no!!

and why not? cause you didn't want to. lets get real.

12 damn years to put your ideas into law. 12 damn years to improve the lives of hundreds of millions of Americans. 12 damn years.

and you did squat. so now....that the Dems decided to act....you can shut up.

The passing of this bill probably won't do all that has been promised. However, when people realize that there are no death panels, that the gov't debt actually goes down and that people will still be allowed to participate in sport fishing tournaments, they'll realize that the GOP were a bunch a liars.
