Colombia U students to Iran prez: classless/stupid

Saw how they laughed in the face of Iran's prez as he stated "we don't have homosexuals in our country like you do...." Smooth.

First he wasn't saying "we have none" but "we don't have them like you do here which is IMO no doubt true.

Second, even if for the sake of argument we assume Iran is overflowing with homosexuals who are just underground, to REPEATEDLY keep laughing at one of the world's most dangerous men who is a visitor and did his best (at least from I saw) to remain composed and polite about the topic isn't just classless/rude/obnoxious as hell, it's not terribly brilliant.

I'm not exactly his biggest fan, but I'd still like to go up to the guy and say "hey I apologize for those kids. Pls keep in mind they hardly represent the whole of our county, just part of it...and, again, they are kids. Pls excuse their stupidity and rudeness."

Then again we are talking college students, which brings me to the point of how the whole idea of him speaking there in the first place wasn't too brilliant either IMO...

What is the world's most dangerous man going to do in the United States???? He's a loon. He deserves to be laughed at.
 
So... you're surprised that a group of college students reacted to what they misunderstood as a discriminatory remark by ridiculing them? Is it surprising that they misunderstood him? I mean it's so out of character to believe he would make a discriminatory remark considering he's internationally known as a raging racist and holocaust denier. Not to mention being homosexual is reason enough to be killed by an angry mob in most Muslim nations.

Also, why exactly do we care if we offended him? I can't even imagine how many people are offended by him on a daily basis. Damn, now he won't send his kids to Columbia! Sucks to be us!

3. If someone wants an audience guaranteed to agree with them they should speak only to mirrors.
 
I may be misremembering, but I believe the questioner asked something like, “Why does Iran put homosexuals to death?” As you say, part of Ahmadinejad’s response was, “we don't have homosexuals in our country like you do....”

The audience reacted because he seemed unaware of the apparently circular response -- that the reason Iran has no homosexual “problem” is exactly because they are put to death. The reaction was disgusted laughter of disbelief. We know it was disgusted because it was followed by boos.
 
Sounds like Red thinks we should kiss the behinds of people who might be dangerous. In case our lack of respect irks them to the point of violent revenge upon us.

If he's that dangerous, why did we let him in?

I couldn't agree more.

And also, the students' reactions highlight one distinction between a free people and an oppressed people.

American students are free to laugh in a world leader's face when he says something stupid. Try doing that in Iran and see where it gets you.
 
I agree it seemed more like laughter of disbelief. For instance, someone tells you they can fart whole, live puppies. You'll probably say, laughingly, "Wh-ha-hat?" It's just such a ridiculous statement, the first instinct is to laugh at it, because the first thought is: "Oh, he must be joking."

Laughter was exactly the correct response to this racist homophobe for Allah. He is an idiot representing the hateful bigotry of a dangerously stupid set of religious delusions.

By laughing at him the students laid bare the foolishness of his idiotic rantings.

They don't have homosexuals like we do? And what exactly does he mean by that since you seem to think you understand what he is saying better than everyone else. Define "Like Us".

Clearly he IS indeed saying that Iran has no homosexuals, hence his next comment of "I don't know who told you this".
 
From Bigred's ranting here, I can only assume he thinks that the Iranian people have found a way to "cure" homosexuality, or that people don't become homosexual there. :rolleyes:

I mean, why else talk about homosexuals "crawling all over the place", like he seems to assume is true in the U.S.
 
I don't care what position you have (president, god) if you say something as absurd as there are no homosexuals in Iran then you deserved to be laughed at.
