Does anyone know of works published which refute the claims of "science in the Qur'an" (and/or the Bible), from a purely scientific position as opposed to materials written by theists defending their respective faiths?

Snopes has covered one of the more silly ones.

Trouble is, most of the claims made are so transparently unscientific refuting them is a futile exercise. Simply being aware of the science in question is enough.

Oh, I know -- it would just be handy to have an index of the popular and more egregious claims as well as refutations for each. Something with pretty pictures to show the theists who parrot the claims would be a nice plus. ;)

Science claims? In the Bible? Where?

The 4 corners? Pi ~3? Swallowed in a great fish? Global flood? Hell below and heaven above the firmament? Woman turned to salt? Burning bush? Walking on water?

Maybe it's in the Bible Code....

My personal favorite is the claim by certain Islamic fundamentalists that the Koran has miraculous information about embryology in it. It was covered quite well one one of the old, free infidel guy shows (yeah, I'm cheap).

Seems like exercises in retroactive clairvoyance are getting more popular. Or perhaps I'm just beginning to notice them more. (Or both, or neither, lol.)

I'd call this page "Grasping at straws"

If the Bible or Quran really had science in it, we could use them to understand the Universe. Instead this is all post hoc fecal matter. In fact, some of it is so vague that the passages quoted could really mean anything!

Light travels in a path, darkness does not

WTF?

Job 38:19 : Where [is] the way [where] light dwelleth? and [as for] darkness, where [is] the place thereof,

Oh, I see... not "And the lord said light moveth both as a rock upon the water and as a wave above it."

If they'd managed to ever use on of the biblical nonsense to assist in a scientific advance then they might have a case. Post hoc interpretation is about as useful as nostradamus 'prophecies'.

Find an example of the bible (or Qoran) contributing in the progress of an actual piece of research and I might write a book about it. Or might not, cos I'm chronically lazy.

I know. As previously stated (perhaps it's just my perception) it seems like these claims are becoming more commonplace, particularly amongst Islamic apologetics. Googling will return many similar results from Islamic and Christian sources.

It's easy to see that the claims are demonstrably false, and why they're logically fallacious. All I'm saying is that it would be handy to have a list of refutations on an index detailing most common such claims (e.g. crap like this). Has nobody ever compiled/published such a thing, on the Internet or otherwise?

So why didn't they find these "references" until AFTER the science community did the science?

I would say because you can't make heads or tails of what is in the bible unless you can twist it around to look like science that already exists. Meaning that it is all open to interpretation as per usual.

So do they have claims that their little bits of bible science has benefitted humanity in any way? If so, how?

Their attempts are so transparent that it's pitiful. I can't stand to read what is in the links. I'm rolling my eyes too much.
