When will she learn she's not doing her cause any good when she pulls stunts like these? I mean really. Who's going to rally the anti-Bush crowd with gems like this?

"I admire him for his resolve against my government and its meddling," said Sheehan...

...She said Venezuela's foreign ministry sponsored her visit.

Even better, she's officially in the employ of a foreign power!

I didn't know that delusion was one of the steps of coping with the loss of a loved one.

Not one of the official Kubler-Ross stages of acceptance, which by the way are for the dying not those who love them.

However, grief, especially the loss of a child, can trigger terrible reactions, including escapes from reality. I think Ms. Sheehan is more to be pitied than censured.

It's also worth pointing out that some people, when they don't get satisfaction from regular channels, will grow more and more extreme in their efforts to obtain it. Like trying to open a difficult pickle jar. First you try your hands, then you mess around with hot water, dishtowels, and beating the lid with a knife....then forty minutes later you're swinging a sledge hammer and laughing wildly.

Awww, you ruined my bad joke! Seriously though, I sincerely wish that the media wouldn't indulge her so much.

That's what I've been thinking. You can also clearly track this progression in Madonna's ceaseless attempts at "reinvention" with similarly pathetic results. At least Cindy hasn't done Penthouse yet.

Yet.

She's nutty...and yet no worse than Ann Coulter, et. al. who don't even have the excuse of having lost a son. Odd that you keep pointing only at her...

Well, when another (semi-hostile) government is sponsoring your protests against your government, I'd say that qualifies as being in their employ.

I wonder, did Cindy whore her praise out to Chavez in exchange for the funding, or was it just a matter of not being able to find a domestic sponsor?

Agreed. Just Google Jeff Reardon Jewelry Store for another sad example.

I also agree with Jocko that she's hurting her cause, assuming her cause really is to spread a message of peace.

You know, when I read the title of this thread I thought about just throwing up a big flaming post saying "No Duh". I'm glad I didn't do that though.

I don't blame Cindy, but the press that continues to push her and the activists that use her, I do blame.

The press is merely pushing a version of her that they like. It's the version that never had a meeting with Bush, and who doesn't say things like:

"[Bill Clinton's] policies are responsible for killing more Iraqis than George Bush."

Real Cindy and New York Times Cindy are two very different people, I think.

Play nice and stick to the topic, or All Hope will be Abandoned.

semi-hostile? No why would that be?
