Not really, but it hit rather close to home last night.

Was having a few pints at a local bar, talking to a guy I see there now and again, and he went off on this tangent about how Obama is the Antichrist. He was only slightly joking.

Fer fox ache, Obama puts his pants on one sleeve at a time, just as any man does.

I am officially referring to this hysteria as ODS: Obama Derangement Syndrome.

The world can't wait for Skeptigirl's conservative evil twin to start foaming at the mouth here about how Obama must be defeated in the election, or in 2010, or some such blather, or dire badness will befall us all. Oh, wait, she already did: Kurios Kathy has been by recently.

Did they 'look into the future'? I thought prognostication was a no-no for Fundie types...

Why are the evangelicals so hung up on homosexuality? You would thing that they were a bunch of repressed closest queens, the way they carry on.

Well, if he is the Antichrist, doesn't that mean all the Christians will get raptured up pretty soon? I, for one, am looking forward to seeing all them folks rapturing away, as long as they don't get stuck in the vaulted ceiling and all...

They have an excuse already thought up. The power of their faith protected us all!

Even though they look upon the end of the world as a GOOD thing (what with Jesus coming back to smite and all) they'll still claim God saved the world because of their prayers and faith.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense but then what else does when it comes to them?

It's called cherry-picking stuff out of the Book of Revelations. Take it from me, as someone who grew up in the buckle of the Bible Belt, this kind of nuttiness is nothing new for the fundamentalists. They do it all the time - it's like bacon to them.

The thing that amazes me so much is that every damn year or election cycle, this same crap comes out, it never comes to pass (the "end of the world", that is), yet people keep believing it.

ETA: I know there are people out there who think this garbage is for real. Last year I helped with a campaign to keep weirdos like this from taking over a local school district. We were successful, thankfully.

As a boy scout leader, I can confirm that this one is a lie. Boy scout leaders are not allowed to sleep in tents with the scouts. They are not allowed to shower with the scouts. You are supposed to have 2 leaders with the scouts at all times.

I'm afraid I didn't read past the first paragraph, from the list of "bad things" that would happen this one seemed to come from left field: Russian invasion, nuclear holocaust, the end of the Boy Scouts?
