Chris Matthews vs. Mike Pence

To be fair, calling it "Galileo vs. the Pope" is a huge stretch..

Sadly, this interview is all over the place..although I think that's mostly to be blamed on Pence's fidgeting all around.

Well, I don't mean that Chris Matthews is as smart as Galileo or anything, just that acceptance of evolution over creationism is like acceptance of heliocentrism over geocentrism. Liberalism is the intellectual tradition of the Enlightenment.

Liberalism has its roots in the Age of Enlightenment and rejects many foundational assumptions that dominated most earlier theories of government, such as the Divine Right of Kings, hereditary status, established religion, and economic protectionism.[10][11][12]

Wow, that was pathetic, on Pence's part. That may have been the best interview that Matthews has ever done (and I have to wonder if his leg was tingling while he did it), and Pence was just totally unprepared, ineffective, unclear, and came off looking stupid. And, as a fiscal conservative, I like the guy (Pence). But he was brutally bad here.

... And today he had on Tancredo who said that intelligent design is as valid as evolution, there is micro but no macro-evolution, there are no transitional fossils, that they should be taught equally in biology, etc. And Matthews didn't do anything but say they both agree that God had a part and don't take the extreme view of random Darwinism.

He made a minor attempt at a critique by asking if intelligent design meant "god did it".

Yeah, Matthews looks like he's sympathetic to the ID nonsense:

Jesus, Matthews loves to hear himself talk.

I thought it interesting that according to Matthews the opposite of atheism is christianity. He forgets the thousands of other religions around the world?

Oh, crud. :covereyes

I take back the nice things I said about him. I thought he actually knew what he was talking about for a moment.
