I just finished watching Chris Angel on the Larry King show.

High points (other than his tricks) were his statements on
"psychics" -- there aren't any,
what he does -- it's all trickery,
Randi -- has devoted his life to exposing fraud,
Uri -- if he makes any claims on the Phenonimum show about having psychic abilities he'll call him on it,
ditto any of the contestants.

All around good guy IMHO.

I don't think I'd call Angel a good guy. A good entertainer for sure.

You can at least say he has the integrity to not make false claims about what he does, and to call out people who pretend they have powers.

Why is Geller on the show, if not to claim he has paranormal powers?

Let me reword that:

Would Geller be on the show in the first place, if he hadn't claimed paranormal powers?

No: Geller is not there because he claims to be a good magician or mentalist.

There is every reason for Chris Angel to question Uri Geller, every step of the way.

Geller isn't stupid. I doubt if he'll do one of his 3 tricks while Angel is about.

Why is Geller on the show, if not to claim he has paranormal powers?

Because the show is about performers, and finding new ones.
And both Chris Angel and Uri Geller are performers.
And are there to critique the performances.

Geller is on the show because he's one of the creators of the show and it's based on his Successor show in Israel.

I don't think the show came first then they sought Geller, but more the other way around, Geller (Or Explorologist Limited) pitched the show to NBC.

I think Geller is there to again promote himself to the American audience. He will get quite a bit of money for doing the show also, I suspect. He won't do anything whereby Angel could call him out. He's a professional duper.

He's softening his claims of psychic ability (as Randi has said) using words like mystical, mysterious & mysticism to describe himself at the moment. Then within a year he'll be back with another paranormal / psychic show where he's in charge, using his own equipment & there will be no magician or skeptic allowed nearby to unmask him.

I only wish that he slips up in front of Chris Angel and that we get :catfight:

I think Geller is just there as a gimmick. He clearly knows nothing about current mentalism - He went moist when he seen the PK touches routine. Angel would be a more likeable person if he didn't keep talking about himself.

"Yeah, that russian roulette routine was pretty good, but I did the ultimate on A&E with real guns cos I'm awsome." [paraphrasing]

Personally, I found the nail-gun routine more gripping than Angel's polished version.

Anyway, it's good to see that he's trying to distance himself from the psychics. I wonder what his reaction will be to Jim Callahan's performance next week...

That is correct. NBC purchased rights for Gellar's show.

Sure.

But the performances of what?

My opinion is sort-of the opposite: He's a "good guy" when it comes to skepticism, But I think his performances reek of arrogance.
Just as a side note my mother nearly decked him once and this was long before he became famous. Im thinking maybe fifteen years ago so you aren't the only person who thinks he is arrogant. It's a really interesting chapter in a story that involved martial arts, theft, crime, and a faked death.

I think, frankly, any skeptic sort of taints himself by being a co host with Uri Geller.

Just to update, there was indeed a :catfight: tonight between Angel, a contestant (Callahan, who did a fake psychic act) and Gellar. Angel offered up a million dollars of his own money if either Callahan or Gellar could read what was on some cards he made. Callahan almost got into a physical altercation with him.

Priceless.
