China's new sub spied on Google Earth:

Dude, is there anything that Google doesn't see (Except for Cheney)?

Ohmigod! Google was behind 9/11! You heard it here first!

This is a good thing.

Yea

Been a while since we had a reason to spend a few trillion dollars on weapons development and deployment. I imagine it's been a bit boring around the SSPO. PDF Warning! (the HTML version wouldn't load for me)

Now with China joining the world of FBM deplorer's we can reinvigorate our MAD doctrine and ramp up the research!

Before the fall of the Soviet system, as our relationship with China became warmer and warmer, I predicted they would be our next reason.

As I've read the various reports of how much we have been buying from China over the last few years, I had less and less doubt about my prediction.

Now the reports are talking about how much crap it is that we're actually getting from them, but still we see that the income has allowed them to advance their threat capabilities.

Yes this is good indeed :boggled:

Sort of makes me wonder how much the NSA knows about this sub. If Google can find it with what is basically a geographic satellite, then what can the NSA's spy in the sky see? Plus, of all those Chinese engineering students that came over here for an education in the '70's and 80's, we must have some agents keeping us informed. hmm maybe I go google up the class name.

This site says that the Chinese army got an 18% bigger budget this year- most of it going to higher wages and retirement. If the rest of the country is getting 60% raises, they will soon have a very different internal economy. And, going hand in hand with the bigger pay checks, will be greater economic freedoms, followed closely by greater political freedoms. China will be a very different place in another 5-10 years. They are building infrastructure now (read 'targets'). I doubt we have "the screaming yellow hoards" of the 50's to worry about anymore.

I'm wasn't referring to that. I was saying this is a good thing because google, a private organization, has the ability to spy on a government.

From the article:
Some senior Chinese defence officials argue that military outlays should be lifted from the current level of 1.5 per cent of Gross Domestic Product to between two and three per cent, which would be comparable to advanced Western economies.
Doesn't sound very militaristic to me.

On the contrary, shifting focus from defense to industrial R&D spending with increased efforts against industrial espionage would be a more appropriate response.

That I agree with :)

Google staff need to dress up in trench coats and sunglasses
