Did anyone watch the horizon programme Chimps are people too?
It seems to be available from the Horizon web site (I’m currently off line at home so can’t watch it): available until 17th October .
The BBC article linked to above introduces several experiments, hinting the focus of the programme was an experiment that tried to raise bonobos as people. Unfortunately the article doesn’t report on the results, except that a 26 year old bonobo was acting like a child. The article also seems concentrated on the approach of the presenter, who I’d never heard of.
A quick google for the Great Ape Trust Research Center indicates an attitude of having accepted that apes can learn language (discussed in this interesting thread). Their work may be very interesting, but I disagree that their research is “arguably the most critical and powerful new science emerging today!”
