I recently joined the forum over at theedgeam.com. I've posted about this website before, but in short The Edge is an Internet radio program that promises to "Discover the Truth Together"! However, Daniel Ott, the host, invites on the show just about any conspiracy theorist or crack-pot available. He's had people who believe the world is hollow, that the government is setting up FEMA camps, aliens have taken over the government, etc. The common thread is religion. Most of the guests believe that there are angels, demons, God, etc. behind just about everything. It's a weird place.

I posted in a thread about Chemtrails explaining that they are actually called contrails and made of harmless condensed water. The Forum moderator got into the 'real' information that they are made of dioxin and cause 'global dimming'. He then posted a video 'documentary' that claimed that this global dimming has resulted in the decrease of sunlight across the globe of 20% or so....I couldn't watch the whole thing. It's 30-minutes I'll never get back.

He also invited me to join him on his radio show in the UK and discuss the issue with a PhD. I'm not sure what the PhD is in, but I turned it down. I didn't see anything further to discuss unless he could produce any real scientific data to support his claims. I await, without breath held.

Anyway, should I have taken him up on his offer? What would you have done?

It could have been fun to take him up on it but find out who the PhD is and do your research on him so you be ready for what he throws at you.

You are unlikely to get a fair shake but if you come armed with sources and facts you may reach out to someone in woo land and bring them back to the light.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but it's this weekend and I don't have time to do the research. I don't want to be stuck with these guys and without knowing who the PhD was, I didn't want to waste my time.

I might rethink it though.

There was a BBC Horizon programme a few years back which pu forward the idea of global dimming. The upshot was that when aircraft were grounded on 9/11 it was noticed by some that the sun seemed brighter.

The theory was that particulate polution, which was in decline due to clean air measures being taken by many countries, was actually increasing the rate of global warming by reducing the degree to which the polution had caused global dimming in the past.

I understand that many of the findings were found to be suspect, though it was an interesting programme.

No mention of Dioxins though. That was probably added by the woo to overcome the general "huh, isn't that, like, a good thing?" response to the 'chemtrails cause global dimming' meme.

"Dioxins, dude!! Dioxins!!!" :woowoo

That's the program. They did tie in 9/11. I'm not buying into the global dimming theory and I know of no evidence of dioxins in contrails.

Does anyone know of a good website that rationally discusses the global dimming and/or the dioxins theory?

Well I'm not sure how "woo" global dimming theory is actually.

There's some solid science behind it, the wiki is actually pretty good on it if you plug it in over there.

That's interesting. I'll have to look into it. I really thought that global dimming was a farce. I may have to fall on my sword.
