Charlie Crist is coming out?

I think it would be hilarious if Crist "pulled a Leiberman" :)

Hell, despite my Democratic affiliation, I might even donate some money to Crist's campaign!

Serves the Tea Party whackos right. This is going to split the Florida GOP apart, and they only have themselves to blame for allowing the ultra-conservatives to hijack their party.

Yes, he's pulling a Lieberman, the main difference being that he's not waiting to get beaten in the primary -- he's making his move first.

But I won't tar Crist any more with the "Lieberman" label, since that's an insult he doesn't deserve. He may be disdained by his own party, but he's not a sniveling toad, after all.

Anyway, good times. This race went from a near lock for whichever of the GOP candidates won that primary to a real interesting race. The Dem candidate has a chance to win now, and if Crist were to win -- with whom would he caucus?

Interesting. I guess the big question now is what will democrats do.
Will they back Crist or Meek?

IIRC Meek's chances in a 2-way race didn't look very good, and he starts out 3rd in a 3-way race.

Lieberman won because republicans voted for him rather than the republican candidate.

Will democrats do the same thing?

I think Crist has a pretty good chance of winning. The irony here is Rubio slammed Crist for being the "establishment candidate", and then Crist essentially totally bailed on the establishment GOP and went completely solo. I just bet the hardcore conservatives in the GOP are having fits about this now :)

I have a minor quibble with your characterization. Crist bailed on his impending disaster on primary day more than he bailed on the GOP establishment. It's not like he owes them anything past the point that it becomes obvious that he's going to lose. They have no future together unless and until he wins and caucuses with the GOP, at which point it'll be back-slaps (and perhaps a few butt-taps) all around.

Well, the reason he had a disaster coming on primary day is that he had bailed on the GOP as a governor and they hate him. With a passion. Heck on the recent bill aimed at ending teacher tenure he sided with the teachers' union (!) and against the GOP sponsored legislation.

Here's my prediction: Florida will elect an idiot.

Yep.
