CEO_esq and the patriot act

I was wondering if CEO esq, being a lawyer and one who seems to be quite informed on the law would be willing to give us his opinion of the Patriot Act. Whether it is legal or illegal, threatens our civil liberties or not, overall a good or bad idea, etc. I right now have mixed opinions on the issue, as I don't really know enough about law to evaluate it properly. But I am open to expert opinion. And I hope CEO would care to comment, as I believer there is much confusion on the issue.
