Central New York Skeptics - Not just for old white guys
(Not that we don't love our old white guys!) : )
Lead Solder in Electronics - A Phantom Menace?
Bill Busher will give a presentation on lead solder in electronics at the October meeting of CNY Skeptics.
With landfill space being clogged up with spent electronics gear of all kinds, it makes sense to make manufacturers design products that do not contain hazardous substances such as lead, right? Wrong!
This presentation will examine, from a skeptical point of view, the legislation banning the use in lead in electronics starting next July 1, and its impact on us all. It will use Bill's recent articles in Skeptical Briefs and the Technology section of the Post-Standard as a basis for further information and discussion.
Bill will also show how, given that the ban is just for product going to Europe, it will affect us all. Bill proposes that the ban is a result of over-zealous, scientifically clueless legislators paying more attention to perceived political correctness than to scientific studies.
Please join us Wednesday, October 19 at 7 PM at the Betts Branch Library.

We often go out for dinner/desert/coffee/snacks after our meetings, and it's a fun social time.
