So Carl Levin (D-MI) got his stupid butt on the floor of the Senate on Thursday to decry the expiration of the assault weapon ban. He commented that, thanks to the expiration, the streets are now flooded with guns that can shoot up to 600 rounds per minute.

Six hundred rounds per minute??? Sorry, Carl. That's not possible, unless you have fingers the ladies would kill to have jammed up inside them. The AWB only dealt with semi-automatic weapons and didn't regulate full-auto in the least. Those weapons are still regulated by the National Firearms Act passed back in the thirties, exactly as they were before the AWB was passed, and exactly as they were while the AWB was in effect. Therefore, the only way you can get a cyclic of 600 rounds per minute on any weapons that were covered by the AWB is to have a really, really, really fast finger.

I wonder if Obama will cite this "fact" when he pushes for renewal (and permanence) of the AWB, as he already says he will. (So much for not taking away Biden's guns...)
