Split Thread Capital Punishment is not justice

Capital punishment is still murder, how can you endorse it?
Not in my book .I have read where people feel the way you do until something happens to someone in their family and then they change their tune . Why would anyone want to spend thousands of dollars to keep murders a live in prison ? It just doesn't make sense .I'm all for killing them the way they killed .

After what I have read, capital punishment's cost exceeds that of incarceration. And if that is your only argument, I am inclined to believe you are only bent on revenge. Have we not come further than that?

What? To honor the victims' memory by killing to illustrate that killing is wrong makes absolutely no sense. I do not care how you try to rationalize it.

Nor do I care about what you think of my rationalizations. I do care about taking another goodys powder though. Man this hangover sucks.

PS: No I didn't drive.

How do you figure $35 dollars worth of drugs or a 50 cent bullet or $10 worth of electricity exceeds over $50,000 a year to keep them incarcerated?

It's called Justice . I suppose if it was your 13 year old you would just say oh it was an accident and let the scum go ? Probably have him over for a drink even .

2 goodies and a bottle of pedialyte will usually take out a hangover in under an hour.;)

Google "capital punishment costs", as I can not post links.

If it was my 13-year-old I would be overcome with emotion, and we all know emotion should never affect an objective penal system. I will disregard your "have a drink with the perpetrator" straw man.

It is murder no matter who commits it, in the case of capital punishment, the state. A state has no more right to off people than the regular Joe. Miscarriages of justice is also an issue - sending innocent people to their deaths is wrong. Given the Norwegian courts' track record in that regard, I am profoundly glad we do not have capital punishment.

I agree with longer and more severe penalties, but I will never endorse capital punishment. An adequate rehabilatory system and education regarding alcohol intake would prove more effective than a court system bent solely on getting back at the perpetrator.

Expedience, cost and revenge still does not convince me that the death penalty is "justice". Killing to show that killing is wrong? Fallacy.

I would like to think that if a person knows that he will be killed for killing someone else, he may think twice he may think twice before killing .There are people serving life in prison for killing another prisoner and their attitude is Hey I'm here for life what more can you do to me ?How about this ? Even though it will never happen would you be willing to let all these murderers and drunks move in to your neighborhood ?

I'd like to think that too. But liking to think it doesn't make it true. Historically, the death penalty earns a failing grade as a deterrent. Erik is right on this one.

I'm just saying with all the new technology and DNA evidence, why keep people on Death row and waste tax dollars on appeals ? I say if you have them dead to right why keep them alive .

Please go back and check out LL's link. They had a bunch "dead to right" who turned out to be not so dead (thankfully) or to right (regrettably). In my three years in Harris county TX there have been at least two death row inmates that have been shown to be innocent only though the work of the innocence project.

Yup it says the same thing, I said with DNA testing ,so if you have them dead to right with DNA testing whats the problem ?
