I don't know how many Daily Show with Jon Stewart fans there are out there, but last nights show was a classic.

In October 2002, John Edwards was a guest on the show, and Stewart jokingly asked him that if he decided to run for President, would he announce it on his show. Edwards promised he would.

Well, he kept his promise. He made his candidacy official last night on the show. It was one of the funniest exchanges I ever saw.

Stewart decided to push his luck and asked that if he (Edwards) gets elected and then decides to go to war, would he declare war on the show?

I saw it, it was great. And then the Daily show immediately gently mocked him for making the announcement on their show, comparing it to John Kerry's announcement in front of an aircraft carrier. I felt the announcement was very well done. I really like that show. Strangely, their analysis of the news can be better delivered than in some of the real news shows. They mock Democrats and Republicans relatively equally and they do not talk down to the audience. I think they are the sharpest and the most intelligent satire on the air I know of.

Indeed -- isn't it sad that a half-hour comedy show does a better job of reporting on major news than all the 24hr networks combined?
