Can you prove it?

Can you prove that you believe? Not what you believe or why, but that you actually believe. Is there proof of belief or is everyone's belief taken only on their say-so? Just wondering.

No. Too many unknowns--I may simply disagree with, say, Tricky, simply on principle, or in fun. I may agree with Darat in order to keep my lucrative job. I may parrot things I don't understand, but which Dr. Adequate doesn't know enough about to call me out on.

Consistency is a clue, but not enough. If someone is internally inconsistent in his or her posting, I would suggest that they do not mean (or perhaps understand) all that they say. But they may believe some of it, or may believe all of it out of ignorance...

Bottom line, for me--no, there is no way to prove that you believe something. Nor, under most circumstances, is there any need to.

I believe

I believe I can eat a bowl of spaghetti... Does that count as a belief? I can prove that with a fork and some cheese!

The certitude of belief is an emotion, and doesn't really need "proof". It's this certitude emotion, however, that confuses people with logical certainty.

Feh, it's all stupid anyway. When this universe is done, I want my money back.

What I am getting at, is that sometimes theists question my assertions, claiming that I am not really an atheist but deep down inside,I know that god exists. Is there a way to prove my own beliefs or to demand proof of their beliefs?

Some serious questions:

1. What evidence would they accept?

2. Why do you care?

This is one big advantage over saying you have seen no evidence that god exists, rather than just that you don't believe god exists.

Another possible answer, as one French philosopher is reputed to have used in explaining his own atheism: "I have no need of that hypothesis."

what is proof?

if you can answer this question then perhaps i can...

how ever you will also have to explain what you understand the word or concept of "belief" to be.
and if you can also explain how you came to "belive" the answer you gave, which would also help find a common "belief" or "understanding" between you and me(i dont know about anyone else though...).

if you could do the above then m a y b e i could prove to you... but until then...

you will just have be left with what you believe or not believe. because only you know .. or .. maybe not...

then again... after reading your answer.. i may choose not to belive your answers.. because... it might not be the way i think or "belive" ^^

so i guess it is really upto you .. upto me... upto him, her .. maybe the dog next door believs something... but do anyne care? the owner probably does. he wouldn't say " i care that you believe ...."
but the dog probably believes his knowledge about his owner giving him food everyday. and the owner believes his knowing that it is most likely his dog would not bite his hand off. he doesnt think or logicate this belief or maybe he does. maybe i should call this "trust"

anyway. i decided not towait for your answers and give you prrof of a belief.

here it is...
wait for it...(count down from 3)
