Call A Random Swede

This phone number and campaign were launched by the Swedish Tourism Board in order to generate interest in Sweden and encourage more tourism.

Ah, thanks. Phone tourism - for when you can't even afford Google Earth, and a plane ticket to anywhere else is much cheaper.

Yeah. I can only afford to travel to neighboring states. No way can I afford to travel to another continent!

Maybe it's a false flag operation and the real intent is to get Swedes to travel to the US. Call and tell them how great it is here. :)

I suppose that it would be mean for someone from The Southern Hemisphere, or even Hawaii, Southern Florida or South Texas to call Sweden on December 21 to talk about how much Sun there is is the sky.

That would work. What's more likely to happen is the Christian evangelicals will get a hold of the number, do what they do, and kill the program.

"Hi, I'm calling from America to find out about your very interesting country, but before we chat, I want to take a moment to tell you about the saving power of the Lord Jesus Christ, and how he died for our sins so that we could have eternal life in heaven instead of roasting forever in the fiery depths of Hell. Do you have your Bible there with you?"

According to http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/09/world/europe/sweden-call-random-swede-number.html?_r=0 "About 7,500 calls had been placed to the Swedish Number as of Thursday afternoon, with the most coming from Turkey and the United States." I don't know how many people have called from various other countries so far.

If I were signed up with this, I would be more afraid of lewd calls than religious prosletyzation. I imagine that the people receiving the phone calls have probably received some sort of training in order to deal with unusual conversations.

Actually the very first thing I thought of when hearing about this was a scene from John Carpenter's "The Thing"
MacReady: Hey, Swedes!
Dr. Copper: They're not Swedish, Mac. They're Norwegian

It also lead me to look up the origin of those tasty treats Swedish Fish. According to Wikipedia
Swedish Fish is a fish-shaped chewy candy, originally developed by the Swedish candy producer Malaco. However the recipe is based on a traditional Norwegian holiday confection.I guess I probably shouldn't mention that to them either.
