For a man who cannot seem to give a SINGLE speech with invoking a spooky father-figure in the sky, is this a real surprise?

Not surprising at all, but sad. Almost as sad is that the reporter, Ron Hutchenson, doesn't know what a scientific theory is or he wouldn't have wrote about ID and evolution as if they had the same standing. The ignorance of the press is also culpable in this whole evolution/ID debate, IMHO.

ETA: Here's a AP story where the reporter makes the same mistake, referring to the "theory of intelligent design". No, you friggin' bonehead, IT'S NOT A THEORY!!! Bush didn't even call it a theory, apparently he doesn't have to because the press will do that for him.

Just like every other president, so shocking!

"Of course like every other man of intelligence and education I do believe in organic evolution. It surprises me at this late date such questions should be raised." --- Woodrow Wilson.

"Thank Heaven I sat at the feet of Darwin and Huxley." --- Theodore Roosevelt

"I'm a moron. A grade-A freakin' moron." --- George W. Bush

Why am I not suprised by any of this.

Science Education is now going to be compremised and schoolboards around the country will probably start to adopt "Intelligent Design" and somehow manage to incorperate it into the classroom.

Again, I think this is another piece of evidence to be thrown into the idea that the USA is shifting slowly towards a theocracy.

Now, now. Are you suggesting that subsequent chief executives must themselves reveal the evolutionary process?

:p

Sorry Mr. Bush, but in science class we teach science.

There isn't an "origins of man" class where we discuss different thoughts on the subject nor should there be.

I seem to recall Al Gore saying that he felt that creation could be taught in public schools. Just that it didn't belong in science class, but religion class.

When did public schools get a religion class?

Man, it's going to be so cool when I'm President.

"And in conclusion, if it turns out you guys are right about that whole sky-pixie thing, then may He bless the United States of America."

Huh? Did Little Silver Spoon George ever go to public school?

Is this relevent or just partisanship?

I think it was a tongue-in-cheek reference to how out of touch the statement by gore was that he responding to.

Perhaps, but you have to give the guy credit for being able to differentiate between provable facts and desired truth. I suppose that Bush has been consistant, at least, in his fuzziness between the two.

Isn’t this just one of Rove’s smoke and mirrors techniques to cover something the Bush Administration is using to divert attention elsewhere? It fits the MO. Shouldn’t we look elsewhere for the true story?

There's more than one truth. Rove was involved in leaking Plame's identity, Bush does think Intelligent Design deserves to be taught in school and my tea will cool too much if I go on.

All those truths have their own meaning.

The meaning I want people to understand is: Don't vote for loyal party Republicans in 2006 and 2008.

I’ve never really been a believer in the “smoke and mirror” theory, where Bushco deliberately sends out a decoy scandal to distract the public from the main scandal. I think that they are genuinely such horrible screw-ups and accumulate such a long string of scandals and horrible policy decisions that nobody can keep track.

Man, look at all the Bush brainwashed Bush apologists coming out of the woodwork to defend him.-..... oops.... Too bad when that broadbrush doesn't work, huh? I guess you some of you will have to come up with a new way to summarily dismiss the viewpoints of people who don't necessarily agree with your latest reactionary diatribe.
