Burning TrueCrypt files

Does someone in here know how to burn down working TrueCrypt [*.tc] files?

I burned a DVD with my private encrypted Data by burning down the *.tc - file itself. Now after doing so I mounted the *.tc file on my DVD but if I try to access the mounted volume via the WinXP Explorer all I get is an error message claiming that the Folder/Drive is unreadable.

I also tried to sign up at their Forum and to ask there concerning the problem, but my common email-provider is blacklisted due to their spam problems in the past, so I cannot start a thread there. :boggled:

Did anyone in here encounter the same problem and/or knows a solution to use *.tc files after they were copied to another drive/device?

I copy TrueCrypt encrypted files to thumb drives and DVDs and such, and I never had such a problem. Is the file size larger than the file system can support?

This is strange... While the original file is 4.33 GB so it fits onto a DVD, the copy on my DVD is just 347 MB... I guess something went wrong while I burned the DVD... I try it again by copying the file onto an USB-Stick...

Okay, problem solved... :D
Thank you very much, GeeMack. :)

I thought that the drive&folder the .tc file is stored had something to do with the problem to mount it from a different location. But my problem seemed to be that the file wasn't copied properly while burning it onto a DVD. :"/

Meh, I burned the file onto a DVD again and I get the same result: The filesize is 347 MegaBytes instead of the 4.33 MegaBytes... :(

I'm using the Freeware program "DeepBurner" for creating DVD's. Maybe it isn't the best free program after all?

Wild guess... Your burner software might be assuming the file is a video and is trying to compress it. Maybe you have to specify somewhere that you're making a data DVD rather than a video DVD.

I don't know anything about "DeepBurner". I use another open source GPL program called InfraRecorder. It's bare bones, but it works satisfactorily for everything I've tried so far.

That could be the case, but I don't see a reason for the program to assume that the file is a video of some kind. And I had no problems burning down other huge files in the past. Maybe the single 4Gb file is just too big and you would have to buy the pro version of DeepBurner or something like that...

But thank you for your hints, GeeMack, I will give your Freeware program a try. :)

The other possibility is that the program, or the file system you're using, is one of the ones with a 4GB limit; in particular the 347MB actual burned size is suspicious since that's (approximately) your file size less 4GB. This can also happen if the program in question uses a too-small variable to contain the file size.

Note that ISO images - as used by CDs, and possibly some DVD burning programs - have a 4GB file size limit. See Wikipedia for more

Thank you for your hint, grmcdorman. Since I'm using Freeware to burn down DVD's, it is highly possible that this software is limited concerning file sizes since I cannot choose to burn the Data using the UDF file system, no matter what Freeware I tried so far.

Maybe there is a free Software that is able to burn using the UDF File System? :"/

Have you tried imgburn? It has options for UDF.

You can use it to burn directly to dvd, or build an ISO image which you can mount/open with daemon tools, alcohol or ultraiso to check the .tc files are accessable, then burn the image file.

I just installed ImgBurn but is does not seem to be Freeware since it asks me to enter a serial etc... :"/ But thanks for your contribution, odeed. :)
