Broadband: Good

Well, today I finally got myself a broadband connection to the Internet, via Comcast. I have to admit that it is pretty farking cool. It is good to join the late 20th Century, and only a few years into the 21st.

It was fun to set up, because we ran thinwire Ethernet cable through the house in 1988. Remember BNC connectors and hubs that support them? They are getting a tad hard to find.

I hardwired a connection to my office machine, and ran a wireless access point into my wife's office for her laptop.

My mother-in-law FINALLY upgraded from AOhelL to broadband... I've been nagging her literally for years as she had a dedicated phone line for it ($20 + $25 for AOL = broadband costs!)

She spent a week telling us how much she absolutely loved it... no crap!

One reason it took us so long, other than sheer laziness, is because we are 700 feet from the street. They had to run a high-capacity line to a box by the driveway (next to the power transformer box), then a regular line from there to the house. Didn't charge us for it.

I am my own employer, so the answer is yes to both questions. Now I can upload megabytes of stuff in minutes instead of hours.
