Brightest galactic flash ever detected hits Earth

Tsunami connection?

Several readers wondered if the magnetar blast could be related to the December tsunami. Scientists have made no such connection. The blast affected Earth's ionosphere, which is routinely affected to a greater extent by changes in solar activity.

Hilarious! whats next? that it was predicted by psychics and it is altering our auras?

The sun is a middle-aged star about 8 light-minutes from us. Its tantrums, though cosmically pitiful compared to the magnetar explosion, routinely squish Earth's protective magnetic field and alter our atmosphere, lighting up the night sky with colorful lights called aurora.

Considering THAT (from the article), then I would say any readers wondering about the Tsunami and the non-sun burst are very selective readers.

The burst in December would have been weaker than our own sun's tantrums wouldn't it?

The magnetar explosion would have been even weaker than the sun's "pitiful" tantrums when comparing each to how it hit the planet?

Brightest galactic flash ever detected hits Earth...

I'm a very sad excuse for a person. As soon as I read this title, the words "Eccentrica Galumbits, the triple breasted whore of Eroticon 6..." leapt into my mind.

Gamma rays, huh? No wonder so many people turned into Hulks around Christmas.
