'Bright' has negative connotations

I wanted to start a discussion on the term 'bright', which I've seen all over the net the last week. I think that in English at least, this is coopting a moderately perjorative term (at least in the eyes of MOST Americans) with some icky residual semantics. I would humbly propose instead the term 'light', which immediately implies that one shines the light of reason everywhere, but better yet has no obvious cultural semantics other than an estimation of mass/weight......

Please forgive and enlighten if this has already been discussed.
