Is this cool? I'm not a diver so I don't know. I actually thought these sorts of devices already existed but were too cumbersome for practical use.

But heck! Fish swim. Seems practical to them.

Yes it's cool. Dive tanks weigh a lot. Until respirocytes can be made these devices sould be great. I'll buy one if they don't cost a super high amount.

I wonder if devices like this would be useful to special forces groups? If we can suck out the disolved oxygen maybe we can disolve the waste gasses back into the water so that divers sneaking in somewhere don't leave a trail of bubbles.

It'd use more power, but other than that I see no reason why they couldn't do that.

Since it only takes 2 atmospheres of pressure to carbonate soda pop. I'd say that scuba exhaust won't make it to the surface from about 100 ft depth.

Alright, now we have evacuated the oxygen out of the water, then we have to pressurise it back up to ambient pressure, and mix or filter the gas to something close to air. I better go read the link again....

Anyhow, he doesn't have a working model yet, only a lab experiment.
