Boy chosen by Dalai Lama turns back on Buddhist order

Interesting background for a potential film-maker. Could turn out to be a very interesting career.

Way I see it:

So the reicarnated buddha (the Dalai Lama is a buddha), in his infinite wisdom and enlightenment and oneness with the universe, has seen that sex, alcohol and loud music are good for him. Probably for you too. I mean, he wouldn't do something that loses him karma points, right?

And, hey, he's the perfectly enlightened being and I'm just an unenlightened John Doe. If he thinks that going to a disco with a girl is good for the soul, who am I to argue with that?

On the bright side, then it turns out that I spent most of my youth getting enlightened. I might not have realized it at the time, but there you have it. A few more pints and I might have become a buddha too.

;)

It's interesting that despite what he was being taught, he didn't buy into the ideology.

I don't know at all, but I'd be willing to bet money this isn't the first time this has happened. Maybe not specifically with the Dalai Lama, but with at least one of these bigshots who trace and "authenticate" their supposed reincarnations.

I tried to look into the story more, but there are a lot of contradictory statements in the interviews.

He apparently just released a letter:

However, certain media find ways to sensationalize and exaggerate an unusual story. So I hope that what appears in news print is not read and taken too literally. Don't believe everything that is written!
Experience shows that however hard one tries in interviews to sincerely and honestly convey key information, the printed result can tend towards sensationalism to get the most attention.
FPMT is doing a great job and Lama Zopa is an immensely special person - very inspiring and a great yogi.
Personally, my job is to find new ways in which to discover the true nature of our being. There is no separation between myself and FPMT - we are all working together in so many aspects and terrains. Humanity is our office. Besides, I don’t really qualify very much in Buddhist studies, because I didn’t finish them, so working together is the clue.

He's really being annoyingly vague. But it is enough for the true believers to cling on and claim he is just trying to spread the Dharma in a new way.

Can anyone explain me how to check the date at which an html page was updated?

I didn't see this webpage yesterday when I browsed their website. More, just yesterday the information on Osel from fmpt was not available at all, just like the wikipedia article says.

Yup, there was an update. The story seems to me much less clear than before. Wikipedia was updated too.

That's really interesting... he decides he doesn't want to live in the Buddhist order, yet he can return at any time as their spiritual leader. So people believe he's divine even though he doesn't believe it himself.

That reminds me of something I read about when Haile Selassie arrived in Jamaica and Rastafarians were praising him as God. He was taken aback, to say the least.
