I was browsing Bloomberg.com, a news source for financial market information and analysis, when I noticed a link to this clip labeled "Tan Says Year of Rat May Portend Losses in Asian Stocks." Curious, I clicked the link thinking that maybe it was just a reporter being cute by using "Year of Rat" as a colorful substitute for 2008. No, this was a totally uncritical interview with a Chinese Astrologer, being given the exact same respect and deference one would give to an economist or other expert on what the upcoming year has in store.
Now, since everyone who follows economic news even casually knows that a recession seems likely, I'm not suprised that this guy predicted a rough year for stocks. But of course he could just be cribbing off the real economists who have been predicting this for some time.
Anyway the clip is probably chuckle-worthy, although a rather sad commentary on the gullibility of humanity.
