While I can agree with much of Bill's political positions, he is a woo woo.

Tonight, on episode 41 of Real Time, Bill had a doctor on talking about the flu vaccine. Bill expressed his ignorant opinions that vaccinations are bad for people and that "western" medicine tends to treat "only the symptoms, not the cause". I can safely assume that he is a woo woo when it comes to medical science, even though he does support stem cell research.

I was hoping he was a skeptic. Oh well.

While I believe Bill Maher is as ignorant as they come I also think modern medicine is a scam. GREED GREED GREED GREED GREED GREED.

Luke 12:15

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth

Maybe if you just give him some time, he'll eventually come around. I mean, he's not a dumb guy or anything like that. As far as the vaccinations are concerned, I'm assuming that his comments regarding them stemmed out of the recent incident in that British plant where flu vaccines being manufactured there had been contaminated with Serratia. It's, of course, not easy to resist becoming disconcerted at such an occurrence.

Are you a student of art history? I ask because I notice you have a painting of jeebus as your avatar that dates to about 1350, if I recall my studies correctly.

That's a painting? I thought it was the Shroud of Turin.

Parts of which are painted.

Yes, it is the shroud of Turin, but the shroud of Turin is a painting, dating from about 1350.

But back to the topic at hand - I saw Bill Maher at KU in about 1996-97. Fred Phelps and his gang of inbred mutants were out front, protesting his appearance. It was funny. He mentioned it on stage, but obviously didn't know who they were. Said something to the effect of "Who were those nuts?".

He went way beyond vaccines. He described illness as things trying to get out of the body and modern medicine as trying to keep things in. He said that he avoids all medicines (but implied that he uses pot as a medicine). His rant was pure leprauchan droppings.

The transcript of the show will be up in a couple of days.

I don't think he ignorance about western medicine comes from the flu vaccine fiasco. He was using the same tired arguments that the woowoo medicine people use: "western" medicine treats the symptom, but doesn't address the core of the problem. If you eat healthy and stay in shape, viruses will not affect you. We vaccinate people too much and that's why people today have poor immune systems. Too many antibodies make our immune systems weakers.

I agree. I was yelling "you f****** moron" at the screen. Modern medicine treats "only the symptoms, not the cause" is such alt.med BS, and Maher has apparently swallowed it whole. He went down a lot in my estimation.

The two are not mutually exclusive. :D

Wrt flu vaccines being useless, he also said over use of antibiotics was part of the problem. Over use of antibiotics have made a virus worse. Yes, I see.

I'm confused.

Vaccines are the only thing that we have the directly prevents illness.

How is that not treating the cause O.o

Take a look at Bill Maher's chatroom: http://boards.billmaher.com/showfla...=594803&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

A lot of anti-vax nonsense being spouted. Example:

I am afraid that you are out of your element. You have not done your homework and simply just repeating what you have heard. That is called PBS. Parrot Brain Syndrome. You hear something and repeat it without doing any kind of research or investigation.

There is not a single shred of evidence that a vaccine "cured" small pox or polio. In fact small pox was decreasing before they introduced the vaccine and the vaccine actually caused more small pox.

Polio was the same. It was also decreasing before the introduction of the vaccine. It should also be noted that WHO (World Health Organization) recommended (I believe in 1967) that polio be changed to spiral meningitis at the time of the introduction of the vaccine. That way it appeared that the vaccine had "cured" polio when in fact the diagnosis was changed to a different name and obviously no or very few cases were reported of Polio.

Do you have any idea how toxic vaccines are? Do you have any idea what they contain?

Here is a list of popular ingredients:

1. Formaldehyde.
2. Mercury.
3. Aluminum.
4. Cow blood.
5. Dead tissue from aborted babies and animals.
6. Chicken and human embryo.
7. Antibiotics.
Does anyone want to go over there and disabuse them of this crap? I'm not sure if I have the time or energy.

Oh, and I hate Bill Maher with a vengeance now. Dan Rather is whom I worship.

That wouldn't worry 1inC, because he doesn't believe in radiocarbon dating or, indeed, any other dating methods that contradict his beliefs.

Re: Re: Re: Bill Maher is woo woo.

That reminds me of something I heard while watching bill maher's show a couple of months ago. It was a show about the obesity problem. He asked the Minister of Health(I don't know the guy's real title) what he thought the problem was. The guy said, of course, that many factors lead to it, and he couldn't name one thing. Bill Maher said he knew exactly what it was. High Fructose Corn Syrup. It wasn't in any food until the 70s, and since then the obesity rate has skyrocketed. Cut out the high fructose corn syrup, and we'd all be thin.

I thought it was odd and a bit woowooish at the time, but dismissed it.

I read a study recently(within the last year or two), that kids who were more likely to get antibiotics were more likely to have allergies. I don't know if the antibiotics weakened them somehow, or if the lack of them killed off the weaker kids. Didn't really say.
