I did not see this story here, sorry if someone already posted it

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/05/29/politics.clinton.reut/index.html

, Massachusetts (Reuters) -- Former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday Congress should change the rule that barred him from seeking a third term in the White House, but stopped short of saying he wants to return as commander-in-chief.

Speaking at the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum here, Clinton questioned certain aspects of the 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which prevents a person from being elected president more than twice.

Clinton said the amendment, passed after Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to a record fourth term, should be changed simply to keep a person from being elected to more than two consecutive terms as president.

"I think since people are living much longer ... the 22nd Amendment should probably be modified to say two consecutive terms instead of two terms for a lifetime," Clinton said.

"Congress" should change the "Rule" ?!

Edited to add: Ok, read the article. Bad headline/tagline given by the writer. An Amendment to the Constitution is not a "Rule" to be changed by "Congress."

Get in line, man. Smegmasaurus, Jedi, Baker ... :)

But I'll go back and change mine. Wasn't intentional, of course. I still can't believe that Mr. Bill WANTS the (*&*( job again, though, it suggests he's even dumber than I thought!

I think its a good idea. The truth is that all the power is in the cabinet anyway. We need a new FDR ;)

We already have term limits. They are imposed through the ballot box. Bill Clinton is right but he should lay it all down. There should be no limit of terms or the order in which they are served. It was a reactionary amendment and should be eliminated.

W.J. Clinton - There may come a time when we elect a president at age 45 or 50, and then 20 years later the country comes up against the same kind of problems the president faced before. People would like to bring that man or woman back but they would have no way to do so.

Then let that former president serve in the cabinet or in a special post.

If I had my way the amendment would be changed to prevent immediate members of the president's family from serving in the post. No Hillary, no GWB, no Jeb.

I think the term limits are fine. However, I think the terms should be extended to six years. As it stands, presidents spend the first year learning the ropes and the last year trying to get reelected. This leaves us with only two years where they're really enacting change and getting things done.

We have term limits. You have the chance to limit someone's terms every time they come up for reelection.

Some would advocate two year terms for -precisely- the same reasons.

Hahaha... Yes, perhaps we'd be much better off if politicians didn't have enough time on their hands to trample our freedoms. The trouble is we're already in too deep--we need somebody up top that'll help repeal a lot of the silly laws and policies we already have in place.

I consider term limits an underhanded assault on liberty.

The last big congressional term limit push came as part of general angst against the democrat hedgemony. Ironically, after the Gingrich coup the call for term limits died down. Apparently, people will vote against an incumbent if you give them something to vote for.

I consider things like term limits to be reactionary devices against voter apathy. However, laws cannot cure apathy.

Term limits are liberty limits. They limit the liberty of the candidate and his voter.

Term limits should be in the Constitution not the stae legislatures...

I think that the irony of it is the Republicans put the term limit on the Presidency to thwart another FDR, but then I think Eisenhower and regan could have rerun.

Term limits will be a bad idea as soon as the people who put them in place are sitting in comittee chairs that they want. It was a short sighted policy and always has been.

If some district wants to reelect the same schmo that is the way it is supposed to work.

Actually, the presidency should be limited to a single six-year term to prevent the second half of the first term being used as a campaign for re-election.

I agree with him. I would love to see Clinton go toe-to-toe with George W next year! He doesn't even realize it, but he would get his fat ass handed to him on a platter.

That would indeed be an interesting match! However, I have a feeling Clinton would trounce Bush.
