"John Press, the head of the Brooklyn Tea Party, which protested alongside Bay People at a September 26 rally against the proposed mosque, didn’t shy away from opposing the mosque based on anti-Muslim sentiment, calling Islam a “hostile political doctrine.”

“We recognize the importance of the ‘clash of civilizations,’ and the Muslim American Society is a proponent of sharia law. We believe that sharia law is antithetical to Western freedoms,” said Press, who doesn’t live in Sheepshead Bay and said that “a few” Brooklyn Tea Party members do."

when did New York City become the epicenter of anti-Muslim hatred?

:(

Those Muslims must be advocating for big government and increased spending.

No, you are mistaken. The Tea Party is about smaller government and less spending. The Tea Party is not at all about bigotry. So when high-ranking Tea Party officials and candidates are caught behaving in racist, homophobic, and Islamophobic ways, it's because they are really about smaller government and less spending and the liberal lame-stream media is just trying to smear them.

The Tea Party is not at all about bigotry.

the evidence, again and again, seems to suggest the contrary.

there are multiple stories in the news today dealing with Tea party bigotry against Muslims.

and the fact is that now, almost any time a new mosque or Muslim politician is being opposed, the Tea party is behind it...or part of the group behind it.

If that is all true, then I'd oppose the mosque too. IF that's all true, and not oppose with misuse of the law or government, but oppose as in speak out against.

But I have a 'feeling' that they're against it simply because it's Islam. I have no idea if the Muslim American Society advocates bad practices or not.

i'd like to see evidence that THIS mosque and its leadership, support the imposition of Sharia Law in the USA.

but guess what? even if they do, its religious freedom. The Tea Party remembers when religious freedom is, don't they?

folks have the right to be religious jerks. i don't see these folks fighting against nutcase Christian fundamentalists, just Muslims.

ALL Muslims.

Not sure if you intentionally ignored it, but jk was being ironic.

I'd like to see evidence that these protesters understand what Sharia actually is. That's pretty much absent at the moment.

Maybe when the muslims killed thousands and destroyed the most notable landmarks in New York after the statue of liberty. They received so much so much anti-USA and anti-infidel hatred that it is understandable that they would be suspicious.
Stop that. You are endorsing a lynch mob mentality unbecoming an American (or any semi-civilized personm, for that matter.)

How come the anti-intellectual teabaggers are referencing Samuel Huntington?

You know i spent over four years in the 9/11 CT subforum arguing, fighting, discussing CTs about 9/11 because i strongly believed that the victims families deserved to have someone arguing sanity about how they lost their loved ones from islamic extremists.

That said, this Islamaphobia has to stop. I have shared food, shared laughter, and shed tears with muslims. Most if not all that i have met have been very kind, benevolent people. Most of this fear of Muslims is out of ignorance and prejudice, and it really needs to end.

If the 9/11 hijackers were christian, do you think we would be having this discussion? Not a chance. Trust me, horrors as bad or worse then 9/11 have been done in the name of christianity.

TAM:)

Have we ever opposed the construction of a Christian church because they advocate mandatory prayer in school?

If "the Muslims" did 9-11, than "the Christians" did the Holocaust.

and "the Russians" did the pogroms.

"the Spanish" did the Inquisition.

"the Jews" blew up the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.

So, what you're saying is, most of the world's atrocities were committed by white people!
